Instant Pot Tomato Dal

I made dal independently for the first time while in college! This is the most bare bones dal recipe and can be made with very few ingredients.



Overview

  1. Rinse and soak 3/4 cup of dal in 1 cup of water.

  2. Put instant pot in saute mode and add mustard seeds and cumin seeds.

  3. Add oil and fry garlic, onion, chilies for a few minutes.

  4. Once onions become translucent, add tomatoes and cook for another five minutes.

  5. Add half a spoon of salt.

  6. Add dal and about 2 additional cups of water.

  7. Stir and add one spoon of salt.

  8. Cook on low pressure for 30 minutes.

  9. After done cooking, add a bit of chopped cilantro.

  10. Enjoy with rice or rotis!
